A Triumph at Swerve Table Tennis Club
Published on 06 Mar, 2024
On Saturday, January 20th, 2024, the Cooke & Deaton Table Tennis team headed to the North, up to Swerve Table Tennis Club. Alan, Nicola and Kelly led on the coaching with Dale and Eric joining to host the evening exhibition.
A heartfelt thank you is owed to club members Stephen and Julie Tuck, whose invitation made the trip possible and whose hospitality set the stage for a wonderful and memorable event. We also extend our gratitude Paul Warters, the Club Chairman, for allowing us to make this happen and utilize the venue.
It was great to reconnect with Steve Brunskill, a former top national league and regional player, who is now a dedicated coach and has been leading the coaching at Swerve since it opened! His challenge match against Alan was a brilliant watch, reminiscent of encounters from their junior days. Steve is a great example for the players, with enduring fitness and technique which continues to inspire players of all ages.
The coaching sessions preceding the exhibition were filled to the brim, with enthusiastic players eagerly soaking up every bit of knowledge and expertise. It was heart-warming to witness the overwhelming turnout, with participants of all ages and skill levels engaging in the masterclass. The response from the players and club members was incredible and created an atmosphere buzzing with excitement ready for the evening exhibition!
Special recognition is due to Jamie, whose exceptional photography skills captured the essence of the day in stunning detail. His photos, showcased in our gallery, serve as mementos of our unforgettable experience. Jamie's talent extended beyond the lens, as evidenced by his impressive performance in the one-point challenge final!
We were also grateful to meet Ryan Morton, from Tees Sport, who participated in both the coaching and the exhibition! We’re now working closely with Ryan as part of our partnership and collaboration with Butterfly and Tees Sport.
The venue itself was perfect for the event, boasting a cozy café and a balcony viewing area - this didn’t stop the spectators from coming down and filling the main hall in time for the exhibition event, creating a buzzing atmosphere.
Stephen and Julie have wasted no time in expressing their desire for a return visit early next season, a testament to the success of the event. In the aftermath of our visit, Stephen shared his heartfelt sentiments and words of praise, echoing the fantastic feedback of all who were present. We’re certainly keen to return and feed the appetite for more and longer coaching sessions.
The club raised £1600 which will go to fund saving this wonderful club!
